During hurricane season, concerns of flooding are on the rise. Some Floridians face higher risks than others – why is that?

Floodplains are higher-risk locations, usually (but not always) near bodies of water that overflow during heavy rain. Scientists use past rain and flood records to map floodplain boundaries.
