Florida’s growing population relies mostly on groundwater for their drinking water. This groundwater is found in porous, limestone aquifers that saltwater can easily infiltrate as sea levels rise.
The salty water is unsuitable for drinking without costly treatment. Rising sea levels also cause more frequent and severe coastal floods. Salt water can corrode infrastructure, including water treatment plants and damage distribution systems, disrupting the availability of clean drinking water.
